Look at the two hearts above.

The one on the right is yours. The one on the left is yours after confession.

Any questions?

“I will sprinkle clean water upon you to cleanse you from all your impurities, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts. I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes, careful to observe my decrees.” Ezekial 36:25-27.

    1. A bit of catechetical advice: Every time I go to confession, I tell the kids. I tell them how burdened I was by some particular sins and had to drag myself in; and how sleek and clean I feel after. Many (most?) of them don’t know anyone who goes to confession, so it gives the sacrament some living credibility.

      1. You know Christian, that is totally powerful to share that you’ve gone to confession and to share your feelings about it! That’s exactly what I was talking about regarding making faith real. It exactly gives the sacrament living credibility! You are awesome, dude!

    2. You definitely have a way with words Christian…and analogies! And, the grossness of that image makes it stick all the more, especially in the minds of sixth graders I’m sure. Well said!
