“Many, mistakenly, have thought that an explicit proclamation [of the Gospel] is no longer necessary, and that personal testimony is the only tool of the new evangelization.”<\/span><\/h2>\n

Archbishop Salvatore Fisichella, President of the\u00a0Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

These are very needed words in the Church. Essential words for the new evangelization<\/a> because\u00a0Catholics can be very reticent to share their faith.<\/p>\n

Commenting on this quote, my friend Ashley Collins<\/a> said, “While important, people have pulverized St. Francis’s saying, “Preach the gospel… if necessary use words.”\u00a0It’s time to use those words.”<\/p>\n

I agree!
\n<\/p>\n

The really funny thing about this is St. Francis preached to everyone<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That’s what the brothers did in the beginning. That’s almost all they did.<\/p>\n

St. Francis even preached to the birds…and they listened!<\/p>\n

But, that wasn’t all they did. They also lived a totally authentic life completely devoted to God and gospel simplicity.<\/p>\n

It was the witness of his radical conversion and his conviction in the truth of his message that set the stage for Francis’ preaching success. Everyone knew he lived what he preached and it was powerful.<\/p>\n

His reputation preceded him into villages and the people were already primed for conversions before he even arrived.<\/p>\n

But he did preach the gospel. And, it was his preaching that really clinched it.<\/p>\n

Both are needed and both are indispensable. You can’t have effective preaching without the witness of life, but the preaching is absolutely necessary.<\/p>\n

Archbishop Fisichella also stated that “it is time to open the doors and to proclaim again the Resurrection of Christ, of which we are witnesses.”<\/p>\n

To be a witness of the resurrection is to proclaim<\/a>\u00a0how Christ has changed your life and why you follow him. It also means to proclaim the truth of what Christ has done and is doing in\u00a0the world. You should understand the basics of the\u00a0Catholic Gospel\u00a0message<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Preach\u00a0the gospel always through the witness of your life, and never be afraid to give a reason for\u00a0the hope that is within you. That’s\u00a0evangelization<\/a>!<\/p>\n
