\"\"<\/a>A real estate agent once told me, “When you’re selling a house, you lead\u00a0with your strongest asset. You talk\u00a0about\u00a0the best features first.”<\/p>\n

She told me this during a lecture on evangelization in the RCIA.<\/p>\n

“So,” she asked, “why do we always wait so late in the game to start talking\u00a0about the Eucharist? It’s the best thing we’ve got!”<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Eucharist is the most spiritually beneficial thing in the Catholic Church. But it’s usually not the first thing people\u00a0talk about when trying to evangelize.<\/p>\n

There’s the feeling that it’s too complex and loaded a topic to tackle right away.<\/p>\n

So how do you introduce the Eucharist to non-Catholics so that it draws them in deeper instead of scaring them away? That’s what this post is about.
\n<\/p>\n

Start off emphasizing benefits<\/h2>\n

The key is respecting the stages of spiritual development.<\/p>\n

Evangelizing catechists know where their students are and how much they can take.<\/p>\n

In the beginning, you can’t start off talking\u00a0about theological elements of the Eucharist. You’ll lose your audience.<\/p>\n

You start off talking about the benefits–why it’s important and what it can do for them.<\/p>\n

At the start, the why of the Eucharist is more important than the what.<\/p>\n

The Eucharist increases your union\u00a0with\u00a0Christ<\/h2>\n

The main benefit of the Eucharist is it unites you more closely to\u00a0Christ.<\/p>\n

Doesn’t sound important? Well actually…it’s\u00a0everything!<\/p>\n

In the beginning, Adam and Eve were in union\u00a0with\u00a0God. Their union came through the supernatural life of God residing in their souls.<\/p>\n

This divine life of God was the ordering principle of their souls. It gave them an internal harmony. Their wills were perfectly aligned with God’s will.<\/p>\n

Their passions perfectly obeyed reason. They didn’t have fly off the handle in anger. They didn’t eat too many sweets. They weren’t envious, greedy, or lustful. Harmony!<\/p>\n

This internal harmony of Adam and Eve led to a harmony\u00a0with each other and\u00a0with nature.<\/p>\n

All that changed with the original sin. They turned their backs on relationship\u00a0with God, lost the divine life of God within them, and broke their intimate union\u00a0with him.<\/p>\n

Union\u00a0with God and his divine presence in your soul is everything in the spiritual life.\u00a0You get that presence back\u00a0with Baptism but it’s increased every time you receive the Eucharist.<\/p>\n

This is the ordering principle of the soul. It’s what helps you follow God’s will.<\/p>\n

The Eucharist separates you from sin<\/h2>\n

Another great benefit is the Eucharist helps you stay away from sin.<\/p>\n

Think\u00a0about it. Sin is making choices that seem good to you but that are outside what God wants for you.<\/p>\n

You make these choices because your soul is disordered. It comes from original sin.<\/p>\n

Your soul needs to get re-ordered. God’s divine life increased through the Eucharist is the way to do it.<\/p>\n

Increased order in your soul will help you make better choices. It helps you avoid sin.<\/p>\n

The Eucharist wipes away venial sin, preserves from mortal sin<\/h2>\n

The increase of God’s presence in your souls wipes away your lesser sins.<\/p>\n

These sins can’t continue their hold on you at\u00a0the same time God’s love is flooding your soul.<\/p>\n

For the same reason, it also helps you break your attachment to the mortal sins.<\/p>\n

Your soul become more and more ordered to God, less and less attracted to\u00a0the things that take you away from union\u00a0with God.<\/p>\n

The Eucharist makes\u00a0the Church<\/h2>\n

Finally, the Eucharist unites you more closely to everyone else in\u00a0the Church.<\/p>\n

Remember\u00a0the harmonies? The ordering principle of God’s life created an interpersonal harmony between Adam and Eve.<\/p>\n

The same thing happens\u00a0with us when we receive the Eucharist.<\/p>\n

There’s another way of looking at this too. In the Eucharist, we are united more closely to Christ, and\u00a0Christ unites unites the Church.\u00a0The Church is his Mystical Body.<\/p>\n

So, in that sense, the Eucharist makes the Church\u00a0because it binds all\u00a0believers more closely together.<\/p>\n

Evangelization Takeaway<\/h2>\n

Don’t be afraid to lead with your strongest assets.<\/p>\n

The Eucharist is one of the greatest spiritual benefits in the Catholic Church–no, in the world! Proclaiming it confidently is effective evangelization.<\/p>\n

It can be difficult to\u00a0understand but given\u00a0the proper context and the right set up, you’ll draw them deeper into the intricate\u00a0beauty and comprehensive unity of the Catholic Faith.<\/p>\n
