My Blogging Focus for 2011

Focus for Blogging Content in 2011

I’m pretty new to the blogging world. This is my first Christmas and New Year season online! I enjoyed all the 2010 “recap” posts before the end of the year and the “take stock for the new year” posts after the first of the year. One thing that came up over and over again was the need to focus blogging content. Focus, focus, focus! What is my bullseye for content? So, I took a clue from Tentblogger in particular and Chris Brogan to figure out what I’m about for 2011.

I’m going to focus on evangelization and conversion in the next few months. These two things are really the key to everything. Catechetical and parish ministry is about conversion…even when it’s not. Catechesis, youth ministry, Bible study, liturgy, parish socials, coffee and donuts and even how the parish secretary greets people when they walk in the door. All of that should be about deeper conversion to Jesus Christ.

Here are some blogging series I have planned for 2011:

  • A series on “Evangelization Basics.” This is a nuts and bolts look at the fundamentals of how to evangelize. It might surprise you that much of the work of evangelization isn’t about teaching or preaching.
  • What is the gospel? Many Catholics can’t articulate succinctly. This series will outline the basic core of the Catholic Christian message. This is the content of evangelization, and it’s really quite different from the Protestant version. It may not all be about preaching and teaching, but it’s a huge part.
  • Being an “evangelizing catechist.” How catechesis can and almost always should be evangelizing to be effective.
  • A how-to on really effective prayer. Prayer that is an open and honest conversation with God is truly life-changing and leads to deeper conversion.

Well, that’s where I’m headed in 2011. I hope you’ll join me.

  1. Looks like some interesting stuff, Marc, especially the one on prayer. I can’t say I am any blogging expert, but Brogan, Copyblogger, Problogger, and that crew were definitely huge influences on me when I first started out in 2009. Their content is gold.

  2. Thanks everyone! I appreciate the support. I hope you’ll find it valuable information. nnJared, I’ve really learned a lot from those guys and continue to learn. There really is so much to this blogging thing. I had no idea! You are right, their content is gold. nn

  3. Looks really great Marc. I am looking forward to reading all of them and passing it on to the people in the local area.

  4. Don’t encourage him, Folks. Now he’ll never come to bed at a decent hour. He’ll be up blogging until all hours. Ha! Seriously though, focus is always a good thing. Love you, Honey!
